Productivity Places Program slammed by TAFE directors
Saturday, 12 September 2009 10:52

I came across an interesting article today on the ABC website regarding the Productivity Places Program.

The Chief Executive of TAFE Directors Australia, Martin Riordan says the program has been strife from day one. Having been involved in educating myself about the program since its inception, I have to agree.

Right from the start it was apparent there was a clear lack of understanding from within the Federal Governement of how this program was going to roll out and be an effective policy that lead to job creation. From my experience there were qualifications that were seriously underfunded and this lead to some providers offering training that was very cheap and you only get cheap training but cutting corners.

Another game changer was that each state implemented the program in different ways, not an ideal solution if you're a national organisation. It will be interesting to hear the Government's response to this article.

I'm all for training and I believe that the policy direction meant well and yes, many people across the county have benefited from the training but more advice from the leading peak industry bodies should have been followed with regards to implementation. Click here to read the article
